As we approach the end of the year, we take a moment to reflect on everything 2024 has been – a year full of challenges and tough decisions but also of optimism, order, and clarity. It has been a year in which we took the time to better understand the impact of almost 10 years of AMAIS, rethought our directions, and reassessed our priorities to decide where to focus in order to bring greater change to society. This journey would not have been possible without you.
Thank you for being by our side, supporting, encouraging, and inspiring us every step of the way. We deeply appreciate your involvement – whether through messages of support, sponsorships, participation in our projects, or simply staying connected to AMAIS’s mission.
For 2025, we wish to continue this journey together and wish you a year filled with empathy, diversity, and amaising moments! May it be a year where our shared dreams come true and we build a more accessible, inclusive, and equitable world.
Education has remained a priority, and our efforts have continued to empower people with disabilities and their close circle in changing perceptions of disability and making accessibility needs more visible.
Our projects included:
59 people with visual impairments, 33 employees from Societe Generale Global Solutions Center, and 45 volunteers participated in 82 workshops and activities as part of the 4th generation of the School. The first 3-day trip with School graduates took place, along with the first workshops in special schools, two workshops for SG GSC employees, the launch of the intergenerational mentoring program, and 1-on-1 support for participants from cities such as Brașov, Cluj, Galați, Iași, and others. Subsequently, we launched the 5th generation with the support of Societe Generale Global Solution Centre Romania: increasing the number of personalized 1-on-1 technology and mobility sessions, expanding our impact by organizing a trainer training program in technology and mobility open to other cities in the country, and conducting independent living sessions in small groups of 3-4 people.

The 7th edition of CMU meant 58 events and workshops organized for over 450 people with and without disabilities, both children and adults, who socialized, empathized, and worked together in an accessible, friendly, and safe space.
Through the CMU Club, we participated in the Swimathon fundraising campaign by the Bucharest Community Foundation with the AMAISing Camp project—an inclusive seaside camp for 12 people with various disabilities. In addition to the 26,500 RON raised at Swimathon, additional support came from The Selfless Selfish, Kearney, and SC Mario Crew SRL. The impact extended to families and over 500 people who learned about the project, including thanks to an article written by Andreea Vîlcu, a Libertatea reporter.
After analyzing the CMU Club project, we realized we could bring more changes to society by reactivating La Firul Ierbii. As a result, part of the AMAIS team transitioned to this project to reactivate the community center: https://www.lafirulierbii.org/.

In 2024, we developed the mobile app, updated the existing web platform, conducted two internal analyses—one technical and the other focused on user behavior within the app—and reached 33,882 indirect beneficiaries through social media.
In 2025, we will start by testing the app through focus groups in Bucharest and Cluj, organizing events for the community, and preparing for the mobile app’s launch in these two cities.
We started the year with the graduation of the 6 students who completed the programming course – CMU Tech 5: A New Generation of Tech Heroes – AMAIS. Most of the year was dedicated to the 6th generation, with 40 registrations and 15 active students. We are preparing for graduation, which will conclude with IT internships for 3 of the graduates.
The inclusive disco is becoming a tradition.
In 2023, we had the first edition of the Inclusive Disco, with over 150 participants, an event that marked the launch of the CMU Club and the International Day of People with Disabilities. This year, to make celebrating the day with a party a tradition, we organized Inclusive Disco 2.0 – Flowers, Sequins, and Magic, alongside La Firul Ierbii and Supereroi printre noi, the golden trio of accessible socio-cultural events, with the support of Accenture Romania. We brought together 181 people, including 60 with disabilities, 111 without disabilities, and 10 members of our inclusive team. It was a great opportunity for socializing, sharing stories, and having fun, but also a step forward in raising awareness on attitudes towards people with disabilities, the importance of barrier-free social and physical spaces in Bucharest, and encouraging more inclusive events benefiting a diverse audience.

2024 was a year in which our work was recognized and appreciated nationally and internationally. We were honored to receive the “Research through Architecture / Architecture Book” section award at the Architecture Annual for the first inclusive design guide in Romania, “Inclusive Design: Empathy Exercises in Design,” which you can purchase here.
Additionally, our projects were awarded for designing inclusive public spaces at the Architecture Annual and the Architecture Biennale in Timișoara for our collaboration with Wolfhouse Productions in designing the promenade in Mahmudia.
On the international stage, our colleague Iris Popescu successfully represented us at the International Universal Design Conference in Oslo, Norway, where she presented two of our key projects: the Empathy Retreat and the inclusive design guide. Together with Iulian Canov, they also presented the inclusive public space in Mahmudia.

In 2025, we aim to increase our impact and bring even greater changes to society. We are preparing:
- The launch of the See You mobile app and its expansion to Cluj, opening invitations to the entire community, not just to beneficiaries.
- Training of trainers to prepare people from all over the country as mobility and technology trainers through the CMU School.
- A new session of programming courses, which will conclude with internships in companies for people with disabilities.
- Empathy workshops for universities, high schools, and public administration, with the goal of making accessibility a priority and reducing disability-related prejudices.

We are excited to take these steps alongside you, our community, and to build a more inclusive and accessible future together! If you want to support us, you can do so through recurring individual donations, one-time donations, or by redirecting 20% of your income or company profit tax: https://amais.ro/doneaza/
Thank you for being a part of our journey, and let’s build an even more empathetic and inclusive 2025 together!
Being inclusive is amaising!
Warm hugs,
The AMAIS Team
